Tour description
Which traces are we following on this route?
Val Gardena can look back on thousands of years of farming history. This farmstead walk to San Giacomo gives an impression of how agriculture shaped the landscape, culture and architecture and still does today. This is a walk going back to the roots of this area that renders the challenges faced by farmers in the valley over the generations clearly perceptible.
What awaits us?
The farmstead walk does not involve any particular difficulties and is suitable for the whole family. The path is 2.8 km long and features a difference in altitude of around 160 metres. Walking time is around 1.5 hours, and with a guide you can reckon with it taking around 3 hours.
Where does the tour go?
We take the minibus to San Giacomo from Ortisei parish church and see the around 500-year-old farms of Col de Flam Dessot and Col de Flam Dessëura on the way. We get out at Banch bus stop and walk down Sacun-Straße (Streda Sacun) to Trëbe late-gothic farmhouse and from there to Hof Mëune, which dates back to 1453.
Behind the house there is a marked path through the meadow up to San Giacomo's church, the oldest church in the valley. From there we follow the marked no. 32 path to Santa Christina through woods to listed Hof Peza farm, which is one of the oldest still-standing farmhouses in the Alpine area. We follow the signs to Ortisei at the junction turning right and our tour ends at Somont bus stop at the farm bearing the same name.
